This draw checks out

Re-running the published method on the evidence below gives the same winning ticket we announced. You can repeat the check yourself.

How the winner was chosen

  1. Entries locked in Entries closed Thu 22 Oct 2026, 7:30pm. The 90 entries in the competition at that moment were locked into the draw and sealed with a fingerprint (Thu 22 Oct 2026, 7:30:03pm).
  2. A secret sealed at the same moment We also sealed a random secret, keeping only its fingerprint, so the secret couldn't be chosen later to suit a result. It is revealed now so you can check it matches.
  3. Public randomness The draw used round 33,296,832 of drand (opens in a new tab), a public randomness beacon run by independent organisations, published Thu 22 Oct 2026, 7:31:00pm — after the entries were locked. Nobody can know it in advance.
  4. One calculation, one answer The locked entries, the secret and the public randomness combine into a seed, and a published method turns that seed into the winning ticket. The same evidence always gives the same winner.

Check it yourself

Your browser downloads the evidence, fetches the public randomness straight from drand, and repeats every step of the calculation. Nothing is taken from us on trust except the evidence itself.

    2026-10-22 18:31:00 UTC

    The method (ec-draw-v2 (per-prize, from 4 Sep 2026))

    1. entry_pool_hash = SHA-256 of the locked entry list exactly as published (UTF-8 text).
    2. committed_secret_hash = SHA-256 of the secret's 32 raw bytes.
    3. randomness = drand quicknet round R (public); randomness = SHA-256 of the round's signature bytes.
    4. seed = SHA-256( secret bytes ‖ draw id as decimal text ‖ entry_pool_hash bytes ‖ randomness bytes ).
    5. pool = the locked entry references sorted ascending; N = its size.
    6. For each prize (placement id P), attempt n = 1, 2, …: s = SHA-256( seed bytes ‖ uint32be(P) ) when n = 1, otherwise SHA-256( seed bytes ‖ uint32be(P) ‖ uint32be(n) ).
    7. Stream = SHA-256( s ‖ uint32be(0) ) ‖ SHA-256( s ‖ uint32be(1) ) ‖ …; read 4 bytes at a time as an unsigned big-endian integer v; reject v ≥ 2^32 − (2^32 mod N) and read again; the candidate is pool[ v mod N ] (N ≤ 1: pool[0]).
    8. The first candidate not listed as ineligible before the cut-off wins. After 1,000 ineligible candidates, attempt 1,001 is drawn the same way from the eligible entries only.

What this proves — and what it doesn't

Anyone can confirm that the published entry list matches its fingerprint, that the revealed secret matches its sealed fingerprint, that the randomness is drand's genuine public value for the round, and that the method then gives exactly the announced winning ticket. The moment the entries and secret were sealed is taken from our own records: an independent timestamp of that seal is not yet in place. The list holds anonymous entry references only — no names or account details. To check your own tickets, use Check Your Ticket on the competition page.
